Beijing Off-road is the most historically rich lightweight off-road vehicle (ORV) brand of the BAIC Group. BJ40 is a compact off-road vehicle of the Beijing brand. With its rugged and classic design and excellent off-road performance, BJ40 has become a legendary product in the Chinese market.
The first generation was launched in 2013 and underwent a facelift in 2018. In 2023, the all-new second-generation BJ40 has been launched. The all-new BJ40 product series is divided into three basic variants: Urban Edition, Professional Off-road Edition and Electric Range-extended Edition
Design Philosophy - Emotional Block
Block refers to the internalized core attributes of strong off-road functionality as well as the accompanying strong character ethos. The specific design language emphasizes 3D transformation of basic geometric shapes by overlapping, interlacing, and cutting, which forms the styling design semantics based on functional design.
Emotion means the design increment with more humane care. More positive and warm feeling surface, delicate transition and new era elements are reinforced on the basic form structures.
Emotional Block is not only the basic philosophy of styling design, but also the underlying logic of function, material and interactive experience etc.
Inheritance and Evolution of Design
Beijing off-road core spirit is shaped and inherited by straight body posture, stable stance, clear body structure and hard body lines. More warm, modern, delicate and sophisticated treatment is utilized on the surface. Tough, young and technically unique features of the second generation BJ40 are conveyed by iconic exterior features and more sophisticated interior design. Though the new BJ40 still conveys the square and stiff proportion of traditional off-road vehicle, an Cd 0.4 is achieved through delicate surface changes.
In the interior, although it continues the relatively tough block shape structure, incorporates more warm and soft materials are used to provide users with a comfortable environment. Dual 12.8-inch screens together with a 10.25-inch cluster and 1.92-inch central start screen, as well as ambient lighting, create a pleasant environment for the driver and passengers. Despite the multiple intelligent displays, a number of physical buttons are present as well to improve the convenience in various scenarios such as selecting driving modes, four-wheel drive mode control, air conditioning system control, etc.
Technology
The vehicle is built on the new Building Block 2.0 platform of Beijing off-road. Building Block 2.0 platform is a new generation off-road platform that integrates off-road technology (high-strength body on frame structure and four-wheel drive off-road chassis suspension and control system), intelligent control technology (advanced driving assistance system and intelligent user experience system), and various powertrains (including gasoline, diesel and electric).
