Clear the stage for a strikingly elegant new body shape: Volkswagen has injected fresh style along with a good dose of emotion and individuality into what's known as the A0 segment. With the new Taigo, Volkswagen is establishing its first SUV coupé in this price-sensitive class. Customers will love its crossover body style, raised seating position, unrestricted suitability for everyday use and a lifestyle feel that is completely new in this volume segment, not to mention extraordinarily high-quality equipment features.

The five-seater Volkswagen Taigo slopes backwards at the rear in coupé style without restricting the headroom in the passenger compartment. Volkswagen is thus expanding its portfolio of compact and front-wheel-drive Polo (hatchback) and T-Cross (SUV) models based on the modular transverse kit (MQB) with a third body variant, which was previously almost exclusively reserved for high-priced vehicles. The focus of the Taigo is on design, individuality and emotion. Equipped as standard with full LED headlights, a fully digital cockpit and latest-generation Infotainment systems (MIB3), the almost 4.26-metre SUV coupé sets a new technology benchmark in its class.

On the German market, the new Taigo comes as standard with a comprehensive range of latest-generation assistance systems such as Lane Assist and Front Assist. The model is produced in Pamplona, Spain. Like the Polo and T-Cross, the sporty new crossover will go on sale throughout Europe, with sales markets including 28 EU countries as well as South Africa and Turkey. In Brazil, the Taigo is offered and produced under the name of Nivus, with market-specific variations.

IQ.DRIVE Travel Assist

In terms of driver assistance, too, the new crossover is very close to the higher-segment Volkswagen models. The new Taigo has the IQ.DRIVE Travel Assist on board as an option: here, the new predictive ACC (automatic distance control with additional reference to speed limits and route data from the navigation system) and Lane Assist merge with other elements to form a new assistance system, enabling semi-automated driving up to a system-dependent maximum speed of 210 km/h. In this case, the new and standard multifunction steering wheel is fitted with capacitive surfaces. These register the fact that the driver is touching the steering wheel with their hands when IQ.DRIVE Travel Assist is active - as defined for Level 2 of automated driving in the EU. Each Taigo is standard-equipped with assistance systems such as the Front Assist environment monitoring system, including City Emergency Braking function and Lane Assist. Few models in this vehicle class offer a comparably innovative range of assistance systems for such a high level of comfort and safety.

Four equipment lines with individual standard features

Volkswagen has redesigned its equipment lines across all model series, streamlining them for greater clarity. Features favoured by most buyers such as LED headlights and Digital Cockpit are now integrated as standard in the Taigo - as they also are in the new Polo. Any potential conflicts of choice between individual components are now virtually eliminated based on the new Volkswagen equipment matrix. This makes the range much more clear-cut and less random from the customer's point of view. For the new crossover model, the configurator starts with the basic Taigo version, followed by Life and then Style and R-Line according to a Y structure. All four equipment lines impress with their fair prices and can be further enhanced and customised with attractive equipment packages or individual extras.

Eight colours and Roof Pack

The new Taigo is launched in eight colours - two single finishes, five metallic finishes and one pearl effect finish. All body colours except Deep Black can be combined with a contrasting black roof as a Roof Pack option. The wheel size depends on the selected equipment line and ranges from 16 to 18 inches. The numerous options include a large panoramic sliding/tilting sunroof, Digital Cockpit Pro with 10.25" display, ArtVelour seat covers, voice control, Black Style design package for the R-Line and the 'beats' sound system with 300 watts and 6 speakers. The amplifier is housed in the spare wheel well in order to save space, so the luggage compartment still offers unrestricted versatility (Varibo function).

Efficient TSI engine options for market launch

Volkswagen is launching the Taigo as an essentially front-wheel drive model with highly efficient petrol engines, generating 70 kW (95 PS), 81 kW (110 PS) and 110 kW (150 PS). The maximum speed is 183 km/h, 191 km/h and 212 km/h respectively. Depending on the engine, gears are changed manually by means of a 5-speed/6-speed manual gearbox or via a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox (DSG). The economical and low-emission TSI petrol engines make an important contribution to the transition towards environment-friendly vehicles.

Coupé-like silhouette, tight proportions

Stylish, desirable, unique - with the new Volkswagen SUV coupé Taigo, a design-oriented body shape enters the booming volume segment of compact SUVs. With its coupé-like rear end, the Taigo takes the successful body style of much higher-priced crossover utility vehicles - CUVs for short - and translates this to the world of the Polo and T-Cross.

Modular transverse matrix

The technical basis of the new Taigo is provided by Volkswagen's Modular Transverse Toolkit (MQB) - in this case the MQB A0, which has been perfected to suit particularly compact Volkswagen models. The MQB offers a range of advantages: tight proportions are combined with a high level of body rigidity, excellent crash properties and a low body weight. Thanks to the MQB, the new Taigo has access to technologies and quality standards that are otherwise only familiar from higher vehicle classes. These include the latest generation of assistance and Infotainment systems as well as a fully digital cockpit as standard. In this way, the new VW Taigo sets the benchmark in terms of driving comfort and safety.

Long wheelbase

Flatter and longer than the T-Cross but with the same ground clearance, higher and roomier than the Polo for an excellent elevated view and generous space: the new Taigo is positioned as a trendy crossover between the compact city SUV T-Cross and the hatchback bestseller Polo. In addition to the coupé-like body style, the striking design of the front and rear bumpers also underscores the highly distinctive nature of the new Taigo. The long wheelbase of 2,566 mm gives all passengers a comfortable, slightly elevated seating position. As compared to the Polo and T-Cross, the distance between the axles has been increased by two and three millimetres respectively. Measuring 4,266 mm in length, 1,494 mm in height and 1,757 mm in width, the Taigo has short overhangs that give it a powerful, sporty appearance. The front overhang measures 844 mm, the rear overhang 856 mm, while the track width is 1,531 mm at the front and 1,516 mm at the rear. There is comfortable knee and leg room between the front seats and the rear seat - even for tall passengers. The space between the seat cushions is 792 mm, and headroom is generous on all seats. On the driver's seat, the distance between the seat surface and the headliner is 1,019 mm; at the rear it is 964 mm.


The new Volkswagen Taigo is a compact car that exudes self-confidence, featuring a modern, sporty design with a distinctive, charismatic look, no matter what angle you marvel at it. At the side, the Volkswagen has a long roof line that slopes elegantly towards the rear, merging into a roof spoiler at the level of the rear window. The window line surrounded in black visually lowers the centre of gravity of the Volkswagen Taigo, which has a height of 1,495 mm. Among the iconic details is the long band of side windows, including the third side window integrated in the C-pillar and the window line rising sharply towards the rear. It opens up into the precisely cut C-pillar and gives the new crossover model a dynamic feel - as if it was already pushing forward when stationary.

Other important design features follow below this window line, such as the so-called tornado line, an arrow-shaped double line featured on both the Taigo and Polo. The surface of this three-dimensional tornado line projects out slightly in the style of a shoulder section, before finishing with a sharp undercut at the bottom. The upper of these two double lines begins at the C-pillar and extends forward to the front wings. The second, lower line forms the undercut. It begins in the three-dimensional LED tail light cluster and likewise runs to the front wings, where it rises slightly to meet the upper line.

Front end

The standard LED headlights extend far into the black radiator grille. Together they define the VW Taigo's "face", extending across the entire width of the vehicle. The optional IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights (standard in Style and R-Line) are particularly striking. Here the LED modules combine with the LED daytime running lights to form a unique signature. An LED strip frames the headlights at the top and bottom. The upper and longer of these two LED strips visually ends at the upper edge of the radiator grille; the lower one merges apparently seamlessly with the LED light strip which is integrated in the centre radiator strut on the IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlight. The resulting light strip at the front is interrupted only by the Volkswagen logo - a characteristic light design feature of the new Volkswagen models from the ID.4 to the Golf. With its muscular contours, the bonnet extends far down into the radiator grille. No less striking is the newly designed bumper which, like the radiator grille, emphasises the width of the compact crossover. From Taigo Life upwards, the centre cross piece in the bumper has a chrome look and spans almost the entire width of the vehicle. A narrow chrome strip frames the radiator grille at the top, while another forms the end of the bumper opening at the bottom.

Rear end

The new Volkswagen Taigo comes with narrow two-part LED tail light clusters as standard. These consist of one main element on both the right and left in the body, and a second segment that extends over the tailgate. The rear tail light unit surrounded in black gives a more striking appearance to the rear section and an enhanced sense of quality and dynamic flair to the Taigo as a whole. One continuous light strip emphasises the width of the vehicle and intensifies its sporty appeal.

Taigo: beyond basic

Taigo is the basic equipment version of Volkswagen's new CUV. The focus here is on a high level of functionality and sound value for money. The LED headlights and LED tail lights come as standard here. The same applies to the air conditioning. Pioneering safety features include a centre airbag, which is located in the side of the backrest on the driver's side. In the event of a crash, the centre airbag deploys towards the centre and protects the driver and front passenger from colliding with each other and possibly injuring themselves in a crash. Another new safety element is the lap belt tensioner, which additionally tensions the seat belt in the area of the pelvis. From the Taigo line upwards, a detachable towing bracket with a drawbar load of 55 kg can be selected as an option.

Volkswagen now includes the Digital Cockpit as part of the standard equipment of all new model series. The standard instrument cluster here displays classic items such as the speedometer, rev counter, fuel level and odometer on a 20.32-centimetre (8-inch), high-resolution colour screen. To the right of this, high up in the dashboard, the Composition Media audio system with 6.5-inch monitor provides access to radio and smartphone functions, as well as numerous apps. Electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors, electric windows all round, door handles and door mirror caps in body colour as well as an instrument of the very highest quality (foamed) also feature ex works in every Taigo. The dark interior décor Licorice Black and the stylish seat covers Basket/Clip Uni reflect the high design standards of the new Taigo even in the entry-level version.

Life: the new golden mean

After Taigo comes Life. This equipment version comes with additional features such as a front centre armrest with additional USB-C interface, multifunction steering wheel in leather, electric foldable exterior mirrors with heating function and exterior highlights such as an individualised front section with chrome-look crossbar, projection light in the exterior mirrors and 16-inch alloy wheels. When unlocking and locking the Taigo, a honeycomb-textured carpet of light is projected next to the driver and passenger doors. The seats in the Volkswagen Taigo Life are upholstered in high-quality Slash/Austin fabric; the matching interior décor is known as Lava Stone Black. A large panoramic sliding/tilting sunroof can be ordered as an option from the Life equipment line.

Style and R-Line are the premium equipment packages

Like Life, the two new premium equipment packages Style and R-Line follow the nomenclature that was introduced with the current Golf. Style and R-Line have different emphases, but are at a similar level in terms of their specifications. With the Style equipment package, the focus is on visual elegance, whilst the R-Line is clearly all about the sporty side of life.

Style includes IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights

The expanded range of equipment for Taigo Style includes the IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights. Originally featured in the luxury SUV Touareg, this interactive headlight technology is a typical example of how Volkswagen makes high-tech systems available in all vehicle classes, thereby democratising both safety and comfort. Other exterior features of the Taigo Style include LED fog lights and 17-inch Aberdeen alloy wheels. The expanded range of functions also includes Park Distance Control at the front and rear. As a feature to differentiate between the lines, the rear bumper of the Taigo Style has a chrome strip with high-quality surround and a silver diffuser. Another distinctive feature of the Style line is that it has silver anodised roof rails as standard. A range of additional details can be found inside, such as the 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro (including caller image, Coverflow, map view and Slide Show), background lighting and the 8-inch Infotainment system Ready2Discover, which includes App-Connect Wireless. With Ready2Discover, customers have the option of retrofitting the navigation system as a feature on demand. The seat covers in a mix of Level/Uni Titanium Black and the high-gloss décor Deep Iron Grey provide a stylish, perfectly matched ambience. There is also the option to order the seats with exclusive ArtVelours covers. Further equipment options for the Taigo Style include the roof with black finish (Roof Pack) or the trendy Visual Green design package with green decorative stitching and high-gloss decor inlays in Visual Green glossy. From the Style line onwards, it is also possible to choose the option "Driving profile selection and electronic differential lock XDS".

R-Line with bumpers in R design

Already at first glance, its individualised exterior and interior underscore the sporty positioning of the new Taigo R-Line within the overall model range. The bumpers are distinguished from those of all other Taigo versions by their striking R-Line design. In the front bumper, the high-gloss black cross and longitudinal bars of the air intakes and their surround convey a unique and charismatic sense of dynamism. Here too, IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights and LED fog lights are fitted as standard. A diffuser - once again in high-gloss black - with chrome-look integrated exhaust panels in the lower part of the vehicle rear distinguishes this area from the other equipment versions. Like the Taigo Style, the Taigo R-Line is also fitted with the Ready2Discover Infotainment system and heated front seats. The Taigo R-Line's seats are upholstered in Karoso fabric in ArtVelours - sporty and exclusive in equal measure; this provides a perfect match for the interior décor in Dark Grey Anodized Matt. As a clear differentiating feature within the equipment lines, the headliner of the Taigo R-Line is black as standard. Options include Digital Cockpit Pro with a 10.25-inch display, large panoramic sliding/tilting sunroof and "Driving profile selection and XDS electronic differential lock".

Black Style design package

The optional Black Style Package - exclusive to this equipment line - adds fascinating black exterior accents to the Taigo R-Line. The exterior mirror caps, radiator grille and tailpipe trim are all finished in black, while the darkened side windows and dark rear window shield the interior from curious onlookers. The Black Style Package is rounded off with 18-inch Misano alloy wheels in black.

Roof Pack as an option

The new VW Taigo is available in eight colours: the two single-colour finishes are Ascot Grey and Pure White, the five metallic finishes are Reflex Silver, Smoke Grey, Reef Blue, Kings Red and Visual Green, and there is also a pearl effect finish - Deep Black. All other body colours can be combined with a contrasting black roof in Deep Black as part of the Roof Pack option. Other components of the Roof Pack are the darkened side windows with dark rear window and exterior mirror covers painted in black.

16 to 18-inch wheels, depending on equipment

The wheels and tyre sizes depend on the selected equipment line of the new Volkswagen CUV. Two 16-inch wheels are available for the models of the Taigo line - the standard steel wheel Dublin and the optional alloy wheel Belmopan. The Life equipment line offers a choice of 16 or 17-inch wheels. n addition to the alloy wheel Belmopan (standard), there is also an optional 16-inch wheel called Everett in a gloss black finish and the 17-inch wheel Bangalore. Customers who opt for the Taigo Style can choose between the 17-inch wheels Aberdeen (standard) and Tokyo, both in gloss black, and the 18-inch wheel Funchal in Adamantium Silver. Those who opt for the R-Line ride on the 17-inch five-double-spoke Valencia wheels. For an additional charge, the 18" Misano wheel is available in a black burnished finish or painted in black in combination with the Black Style design package.

Panoramic sliding/tilting sunroof

No two Taigo have to look the same. This is ensured by numerous high-quality options with which the dynamic crossover model can be perfectly adapted and customised to individual tastes. The large panoramic sliding/tilting sunroof, for example, conveys the impression of infinite width, which can span almost the entire interior of the Taigo starting with the Life equipment line. This has a special coating that ensures optimised temperature management inside the vehicle, with 95 percent of incident light reflected or absorbed by the innovative glass structure. There is also a coloured, tough-elastic plastic interlayer between the two safety laminated glass panes of the panoramic roof: in combination with an extremely thin, conductive oxide layer, this prevents excessive heating of the interior due to solar radiation and high outside temperatures, as well as reducing heat loss from the vehicle interior via the roof when temperatures outside are frosty.

High-resolution colour screens as standard

The entire dash panel of the new Taigo features a horizontal design. This design is largely defined by the modules that the dash panel contains: the standard Digital Cockpit, or the Digital Cockpit Pro, which is optional or dependent on the equipment specification, as well as the new generation of Infotainment systems. Using the View button in the right-hand spoke of the multifunction steering wheel, the Taigo driver can switch quickly and easily between the three basic layouts of the Digital Cockpit.

Together, the digital instrument and Infotainment system displays make up one unit; positioned at the same high level, they form a visual axis that is highly ergonomic. All important modules apart from the air conditioning are integrated in the dash panel's upper crossbar. This crossbar continues on into the front doors and is trimmed in different finishes depending on the equipment. The Infotainment system screen is located in a high-gloss black "island" at the centre. The only additional button in this area is the hazard warning light switch. To the left, the high-gloss black user control island merges into the level of the instruments. In conjunction with the Digital Cockpit or Digital Cockpit Pro and the Infotainment system, this creates a coherent digital cockpit landscape. The air conditioning functions are located centrally on the next level down.

Digital Cockpit Pro offers the driver numerous configuration options for the displays, three of which can be saved as favourites. A welcome and goodbye animation is staged in the form of a slide show. The display can also show the map view of the navigation system and a picture of the caller during telephone calls.

Digital operation of Climatronic

If the new Taigo is equipped with the optional Climatronic feature, the automatic air conditioner has a completely new, digitalised mode of operation: touch panels and sliders now perform the functions of rotary knobs and buttons. Everything is self-explanatory thanks to the use of direct-access controls positioned ideally in the driver's field of view. All functions are also illuminated. The module itself is located below the Infotainment system, is finished in elegant high-gloss black, and is clearly divided into three levels.

On the top level are the direct-access buttons for the windscreen defrost function, the rear window heating, the air recirculation function and the digital displays (temperature on driver and front passenger sides, air conditioning mode).

The second level contains the touch panels for seat heating, automatic mode ("Auto") and synchronisation ("Sync") of the two climate zones, and a slider for operating the blower speed.

Integrated into the third level are illuminated sliders for setting the temperature and touch panels for switching the Climatronic on or off and selecting the air flow direction (head, middle, footwell). Located below the air conditioning module there are two illuminated USB-C ports and, as an option, a compartment for inductive smartphone charging.

New Infotainment systems

The new Taigo comes with a choice of four different Infotainment systems: Composition with a 6.5-inch display (comes as standard in Polo and Life), Ready2Discover with an 8.0-inch display (comes as standard in Style and R-Line), Discover Media with an 8.0-inch display, and Discover Pro, offered in 9.2-inch format. Composition belongs to the second-generation Modular Infotainment Matrix (MIB2), whilst the 8.0-inch and 9.2-inch units are from the third generation of the same system (MIB3.1). It offers the prerequisites for online navigation and an over-the-air map update. In addition, the second-generation predictive navigation system allows you to warn of traffic disruptions along the most probable route, even if route guidance is not activated.

With the Ready2Discover radio system, the user has the option to retroactively activate the navigation function (features on demand). Discover Media and Discover Pro come with these features as standard. The special features of Discover Pro include the customisable home screen and the option of displaying two maps independently of one another on the instrument cluster and dash panel.

Thanks to an Online Connectivity Unit (OCU) with integrated eSIM, the enhanced functions of the MIB3 systems include the online services of We Connect (set up for an unlimited usage period) and We Connect Plus (set up for free use for one or three years in Europe). Depending on the equipment, MIB3.1 systems also offer new features including access to streaming services. Users can also personalise a wide range of settings and save them to the Cloud via Volkswagen ID for use in other Volkswagen vehicles. Wireless integration is also offered via App-Connect Wireless (standard in Style and R-Line) for Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™.

IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights

Best visibility, maximum convenience and even greater safety: with the IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights, a new evolutionary stage of vehicle lighting is fitted as standard in the Taigo from the Style line upwards. In this way, Volkswagen is driving forward the democratisation of innovative LED lighting system across all classes - right down to the small car segment. Alongside the Taigo, this system is also used in the Touareg, Passat, Golf, Tiguan, Tiguan Allspace and the new Polo, as well as the ID.3 and ID.4. Using a matrix of eight LEDs in each headlight module, various and partly also interactive functions such as Dynamic Light Assist make driving in twilight or darkness even more convenient.

IQ.DRIVE Travel Assist

Volkswagen is bundling its systems for assisted driving under the umbrella brand IQ.DRIVE. A fundamental element here is the Travel Assist system, which permits partly automated driving in the Taigo. The system can steer, brake and accelerate the Taigo at speeds between 30 and 210 km/h. To do this, the activated system relies on functions including Adaptive Cruise Control (longitudinal guidance) and Lane Assist (lateral guidance). Using a radar system in the front end and a camera behind the windscreen, Travel Assist can maintain the speed, lane and distance from the vehicle in front. The system is activated by means of the Travel- Assist button in the newly designed leather multifunction steering wheel. The driver always remains responsible for control of the Taigo and must keep their hands on the steering wheel even when IQ.DRIVE Travel Assist is active. The electronics of the Taigo recognises whether this is the case by means of so-called capacitive surfaces on the leather multifunction sports steering wheel. This capacitive detection function is extremely effective and reliable, even on long and flat straight sections.

Predictive ACC

The latest generation of Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) works together with the DSG and navigation system to proactively take into account local speed limit information, town boundary signs, junctions and roundabouts. To do this, the assist system uses the signals from the front camera as well as GPS and map data. The new ACC thus becomes a kind of intelligent cruise control system and is a good example of how familiar assist systems are being continuously enhanced. Moreover, when the system is combined with DSG, the Taigo with ACC can be automatically slowed to a standstill behind a stopping vehicle. ACC operation resumes automatically in the Taigo once re-enabled by the driver.

Side Assist plus Lane Assist and Rear Traffic Alert

The new Volkswagen Taigo comes as standard with Lane Assist, the lane keeping system. If the CUV is ordered with the optional driver assist system package including Side Assist, these two systems merge. Also on board in this case are Rear Traffic Alert, as well as the Front Assist proactive protection and area monitoring system including Pedestrian and Cyclist Monitoring. The driver assist system package can help to prevent serious accidents. Its advantages come into play in two situations in particular: on the motorway, it recognises vehicles in the blind spot that are overtaking quickly or driving at low speed in slow-moving traffic, warns the driver about them, and initiates counter-steering via Lane Assist before a dangerous situation can occur. When reversing out of a parking space, the sensor system already detects vehicles approaching from the side before they enter the driver's field of vision. It can then warn the driver very early on about traffic crossing sideways.

Autonomous Emergency Braking Front Assist

Front Assist, which is fitted as standard in the Taigo, uses a radar sensor integrated in the front of the vehicle to continuously monitor the distance to the vehicles ahead. The system assists the driver in critical situations by preconditioning the brake system, alerting the driver to the need to react by visual and audible warnings and, in a second stage, by a brief warning jolt of the brake pedal. If the driver does not brake hard enough, the system automatically generates the necessary amount of brake pressure to prevent a collision. If the driver does not react at all, Front Assist automatically applies the brakes to give the driver more reaction time. In addition, the system assists by informing the driver if the distance to the vehicle ahead is too short. In addition to detection of vehicles, the latest version of Front Assist offered in the Taigo also detects pedestrians and cyclists who are moving across the driving lane. And it does this not only during the day, but in darkness as well. As soon as a pedestrian or cyclist is at risk, the system warns the driver and, in a final stage, brakes the new Taigo within the limits of the system. The Front Assist system also includes the City Emergency Braking function.

City Emergency Braking System

The City Emergency Braking System is a system enhancement of Front Assist and monitors the area in front of the Taigo using a radar sensor. The system already starts operating at vehicle speeds of approximately 5 km/h. It reacts to pedestrians up to a speed of 85 km/h. Two-wheelers and other vehicles are detected up to the Tiago's top speed. If the driver does not react to an impending collision with a vehicle ahead or a stationary vehicle, the brake system is preconditioned as with Front Assist. If necessary, the City Emergency Braking System then automatically initiates full braking within system limits to reduce the severity of an accident. In addition, if the pedal force applied by the driver is insufficient, the system intervenes by applying maximum braking force.

Driver Alert System

The Driver Alert System, which comes as standard, detects if the driver has lost concentration and sends them an acoustic warning lasting five seconds. In addition, a break recommendation is displayed in the instrument cluster. If the driver does not take a break within the next 15 minutes, the warning is repeated.

Automatic Post-Collision Braking System

Around a quarter of all accidents with personal injury result from multicollisions that take place after the actual first accident. The Automatic Post-Collision Braking System can help to avoid secondary collisions or at least reduce their severity. After an initial collision, the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System automatically initiates a braking action - within system limits - even before the driver can react. In an ideal case, this can significantly reduce the severity of the accident or completely prevent it.

Proactive occupant protection system

If the standard proactive occupant protection system detects a potential accident situation - such as when full braking is initiated by an activated brake assist system - the seat belts for the driver and front-seat passenger are automatically pre-tensioned to ensure the best possible protection via the airbag and belt systems. If a highly critical and unstable driving situation is detected - such as severe oversteer or understeer with ESC intervention - the side windows are closed (except for a small gap), as is the sliding sunroof. Background: with the windows and roof nearly closed, the head and side airbags are able to provide optimum support and thus be as effective as possible. As this system is offered in the Taigo in conjunction with the standard Front Assist function, the proactive occupant protection system also detects situations in which the distance to the vehicle ahead is critical, and it helps to shorten the vehicle's stopping distance. In hazardous situations, the driver is given a visual and an audible warning and is also warned with a preventative braking jolt.

Park Assist

Park Assist automatically guides the Taigo into perpendicular or parallel parking spaces and can reverse the car out of the latter as well. The system is activated by pressing a button on the centre console. Using the indicators, the driver selects the side on which the vehicle is to be parked. Once Park Assist finds a sufficiently large parking space using the ultrasound sensors (40 cm of manoeuvring room at front and rear will suffice), assisted parking can begin. the driver selects reverse gear and then just has to accelerate and brake in a controlled way. The system takes over steering. An automatic braking function provides assistance if the distance is insufficient.

Tyre Pressure Loss Indicator

The Tyre Pressure Loss Indicator utilises the wheel speed sensors of the anti-lock brake system (ABS). In case of tyre pressure loss, the rolling radius of the affected wheel decreases, and the wheel turns faster at the same vehicle speed. Based on these characteristics, the system detects that the tyre pressure is insufficient and warns the driver visually via the standard Digital Cockpit Pro. However, the Tyre Pressure Loss Indicator does not relieve the driver of the obligation to check tyre pressures.

Two three-cylinders and one four-cylinder

The new VW Taigo is an essentially front-wheel-drive model with turbocharged direct petrol injection. The output of the highly efficient petrol engines with three or four cylinders is 70 kW (95 PS), 81 kW (110 PS) and 110 kW (150 PS). Depending on the engine, gears are changed manually by means of a 5-speed/6-speed manual gearbox or via a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox (DSG). The economical and low-emission 1.0-litre TSI and the 1.5-litre TSI make an important contribution to the transition towards environment-friendly vehicles based on state-of-the-art combustion technology.

The Taigo's smallest turbo direct injection (TSI) engine comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard and is as agile as it is efficient. The 95-PS-TSI achieves a maximum speed of 183 km/h. The braked trailer weight is 1,000 kg (gradients of up to 12 percent) or 1,100 kg (gradients of up to 8%). The unbraked trailer weight is 610 kg and the maximum permitted drawbar load is 55 kg.

1.0 TSI with 81 kW / 110 PS

The Taigo's 110-PS three-cylinder comes as standard with a 6-speed manual gearbox. A 7-speed DSG is available as an option. The 110-PS-TSI achieves a maximum speed of 191 km/h. The braked trailer weight is 1,100 kg (gradients of up to 12 percent) or 1,200 kg (gradients of up to 8%). The unbraked trailer weight is 630 kg and the maximum permitted drawbar load is 55 kg.

1.5 TSI with 110 kW / 150 PS

The most powerful engine available for the new Taigo is the four-cylinder turbo engine 1.5 TSI with an output of 110 kW (150 PS). With this drive combination, the new Volkswagen Taigo reaches a top speed of 212 km/h. The braked trailer weight is 1,200 kg (gradients of up to 8% or 12%). The unbraked trailer weight is 650 kg and the maximum permitted drawbar load is 55 kg.
