But if you want something that’ll accomplish those everyday tasks while delivering performance and handling that’ll make you want to sing a Puccini opera, then the 2023 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio and its 505-horsepower twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 could be your ride. The Stelvio QF offers the attractive aesthetics and visceral driving experience of the superb Giulia Quadrifoglio super sedan crossed with the rational attributes of all-wheel drive and crossover practicality. While it excels in performance, it’s by no means the most spacious, most comfortable, or most luxurious of compact luxury SUVs. The Mercedes-AMG GLC-Class, Genesis GV70, and BMW X3 all offer more passenger room, more cargo room, substantially nicer interior materials, and better fit-and-finish.
Engine
The sole engine is a hypnotic twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V-6 that makes 505 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. It pairs exclusively with a paddle-shifted eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels. One version we tested rocketed to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds, making it one of the quickest SUVs we've ever tested. The most impressive trait of this hot crossover along with its stunning body is an ethereal chassis that rides as well as it turns. A set of standard adaptive dampers allows you to select the firmness of the ride, but only the bumpiest roads diminish the ride quality. Otherwise, the Stelvio QF corners with remarkable poise and rewards the driver with communicative steering feedback. The sticky performance tires and beefy brakes on our test vehicle helped bring the QF from 70 mph to zero in 157 feet, performance befitting that of a sports car.
New for 2023 Model
The Stelvio Quadrifoglio remains unchanged for the 2023 model year, meaning that its lovely twin-turbo V-6 still sends power through a standard all-wheel drive system. Alfa’s DNA drive mode selector allows you to adjust throttle mapping, steering response, shift speed, and suspension stiffness. Notably, the Stelvio QF was updated with a host of standard safety tech for the 2022 model year, including blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and heated seats for front and rear passengers.
