Toyota is once again bringing its racing pedigree to the road with the Camry TRD and Avalon TRD, two sedans with an appetite for cornering and a distinct exhaust note bursting with character. Featuring streamlined styling by Calty, Toyota's American design studio, and an updated chassis by Toyota Racing Development (TRD), these updated Camry and Avalon models are the trail sedan enthusiasts they've been longing for. Many Toyota fans are already familiar with the, the TRD emblem found on the brand's off-road pickups and SUVs.However, conquering the Baja is just one of many feats TRD vehicles have accomplished across the motorsport spectrum. Now TRD brings track tuning for sedans that combine increased agility, precision and body control with eye-catching design and everyday handling. When Toyota unveiled the next-generation Camry in 2018, sales of the sporty SE and XSE versions skyrocketed. A year later, Toyota introduced the all-new 2019 Avalon, which first appeared in the available XSE trim. These sedans are stylish and fun to drive.
The Toyota's commitment to passionate drivers is evident in the attention to detail that TRD and Calty have put into these models. On the Toyota Camry TRD, the 19 x 8.5-inch matte black alloy wheels are half an inch wider and weigh 3.1 pounds each compared to the XSE's 19 x 8.0-inch alloy wheels.In combination with the standard 235/40R19 Bridgestone Potenza summer tires, this combination reduces unsprung masses, increases lateral grip and improves cornering ability. The Camry's chassis has been further refined with stiffer coil springs and front/rear anti-roll bars that increase front and rear roll stiffness by 44% and rear by 67%. To complement the spring changes, a unique TRD damper kit was designed to control vehicle vertical movement and body roll while maintaining the TRD's on-road ride quality. On the, the Camry TRD features a unique gloss black grille with a sporty mesh insert and black exterior badge in addition to the TRD's streamlined body. Available colors are Dramatic Supersonic Red, Windchill Pearl, Celestial Silver Metallic - all three two-tone - and Midnight Black Metallic.Polished stainless steel TRD exhaust tips on the catback exhaust complete the exterior transformation.
TRD mods work just as magically on the Avalon as they do on the Camry. The Toyota Avalon TRD gets heated front seats with black Sport-SofTex upholstery, ultra-suede inserts and red accents. It also features embroidered TRD headrests with red stitching, leather steering wheel with red stitching, red seat belts, gear knob with embossed TRD logo and unique TRD floor mats and trunk. Matte Black 19x8.5-inch cast wheels reduce unsprung weight by 18 pounds compared to the 2019 Avalon XSE's 19-inch wheels. Like the Camry TRD, the unbridled sound of the 301-horsepower V6 emanates from the TRD's stainless steel tailpipes. Red stripes on the aero body panels and seat belts along with red accents complete the Avalon TRD style.
