DESIGN
Design has always been central to the Mazda CX-5's unique character. As the first model to adopt Mazda's Kodo design philosophy alongside Skyactiv technology, it set the standard for the brand's design and engineering evolution. The latest generation stays true to its distinctive silhouette while introducing sleek proportions, a bolder presence, and improved everyday functionality. Designed to suit a wide range of lifestyles, the all-new Mazda CX-5 builds on the strong foundation of its predecessor as a versatile urban SUV offering even greater freedom to go where you want and do what you love.
DESIGN CONCEPT
The guiding design concept for the all-new Mazda CX-5, "Wearable Gear", reflects how the vehicle is intended to fit naturally into different lifestyles. Like functional yet stylish clothing, the new model is urban and refined, practical, and ready for active use. "Wearable Gear" embodies flexibility and approachability, offering a vehicle that is both at home in the city and thrives in more adventurous settings too.
EXTERIOR
The design evolution of the all-new Mazda CX-5 has seen it retain its signature silhouette, ever-present since the original launch, while optimising proportions for a more planted and roomier vehicle. Increasing the vehicle wheelbase and raising its front section allowed Mazda's designers to make the cabin more spacious, without compromising the CX-5's dynamic posture in the process.
Central to the new look is its firm and steady stance, which emphasises stability and road grip by visually grounding the vehicle at each corner. This is achieved through a balanced combination of muscular wheel arches and the car's new proportions.
Raising the vehicle's nose enhances the car's presence, providing a more substantial and SUV-like front end that gives drivers a greater sense of security and a more commanding view of the road. The front wing lines are now easier to see from the driver's seat, helping with spatial awareness in tighter spaces. To emphasise width, the bumper openings have been widened, reinforcing the strong stance and improving visual balance. A Signature Wing element, meanwhile, positioned between the sharp double light units, helps the front stand out and exude confidence. The front design is functional as well as expressive, with a lower visual centre of gravity that puts stability first.
The side profile continues Mazda's Kodo design philosophy, combining organic surface transitions with crisp lines to convey motion and simplicity. Expanding the wheelbase and making the vehicle longer also makes it roomier and more comfortable for passengers in the back, all while retaining the sleek CX-5 silhouette.
At the rear, widening the vehicle by an additional 15 mm and expanding the tyre track have given it a more grounded stance. New linear LED graphics keep the overall look clean and modern, while bold "MAZDA" lettering replaces the traditional Mazda badge for an even greater visual impact.
Wheel options go from 17-inch alloys on the Prime-Line grade to 19-inch diamond-cut or black alloys on higher trims. Additional wheel designs are also in the pipeline from Mazda's European teams for even greater scope to customise.
Buyers of the all-new Mazda CX-5 will have eight exterior paint colours to choose from, including a new one introduced for the first time in the Mazda line-up.
INTERIOR
Inside, the all-new Mazda CX-5 embodies the principle of Ma, a key pillar of Japanese aesthetics that prioritise space, balance, and harmony. The result is an uncluttered, spacious cabin that is serene and functional all in one, perfect for families, where the driver can focus and the passengers can relax.
The driver-oriented environment reflects Mazda's signature commitment to place the focus on control and connection. The vehicle's strong horizontal door-to-door dashboard layout gives it an even wider and roomier feel. DRIVING DYNAMICS
Mazda aims to deliver pure joy of driving, and the jinba ittai feeling of oneness between car and driver has been key to its appeal. The latest version of the CX-5 continues to set the bar even higher, enhancing everyday comfort, quietness, and ease of use while deepening the connection between car and driver.
To support this, the all-new Mazda CX-5 features updates to the chassis and suspension, fine-tuned for European roads. Mazda revised the suspension setup with softer springs, adjusted size of anti-roll bars and carefully tuned dampers to better absorb road irregularities. Additionally, rebound damping has been increased at both the front and rear. At lower damper piston speeds, this provides better control and road-holding, especially during faster cornering, while still ensuring a smooth and stable ride. At higher damper piston speeds, the enhanced damping more effectively absorbs vibrations from uneven road surfaces, improving overall comfort. In addition, new tires enhance grip while reducing rolling resistance, for a more comfortable and stable ride across varied road conditions.
The steering feel has been refined to offer a more intuitive handling, allowing drivers to sense and control the vehicle with greater precision and confidence. The pedal response has also been enhanced to allow drivers to experience swifter, more predictable feedback, and consistent acceleration without gaps or delays. This allows for a more natural and confident driving experience, even when continuous strong acceleration is needed.
To further enhance handling and stability, Mazda has introduced seats designed to reduce body sway. The shape and cushioning under the pelvis help keep the spine in the natural S-curve position, reducing unwanted head movement and helping limit motion sickness.
Depending on the grade, customers can choose between front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) . Mazda's i-ACTIV AWD system works together with G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC Plus) to provide greater control in various driving conditions. For example, when entering a curve, the system shifts torque and adjusts load balance to improve steering response. During turns, it increases rear-wheel torque for stability, then shifts it forward again when exiting, helping the vehicle maintain smooth and controlled behaviour. In addition to confident handling, the all-new Mazda CX-5 offers strong towing capability, supporting a wide range of lifestyles. The vehicle can tow up to 2,000 kg, making it suitable for trailers and recreational gear for outdoor travel needs.
Mazda focused on creating consistent sound quality for quieter and more comfortable cabin, regardless of speed or road conditions. Sound-absorbing and insulating materials have been placed in key areas, to keep noise for passengers to an absolute minimum. Precisely tuning the vibration of each component allowed unwanted sounds to be minimized. Mazda has also refined the noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) performance in the all-new Mazda CX-5. The updated engine, equipped with a balancer shaft, helps reduce vibrations and low-frequency noise, contributing to a smoother, more refined driving experience.
POWERTRAIN
This focus on driving enjoyment is part of Mazda's broader engineering vision. Mobility at Mazda starts with its Multi-Solution Strategy. It's an engineering philosophy offering regionally tailored solutions to reduce emissions without compromising driver engagement and leveraging various powertrains to meet any mobility needs that emerge. In Europe, where the readiness of markets for full electrification varies significantly from one country to the next, Mazda continues to invest in efficient internal combustion technology alongside electrified systems.
The all-new Mazda CX-5 exemplifies this approach, launching with a newly optimised 2.5-litre e-Skyactiv G 141 petrol engine coupled with 24V Mazda M Hybrid System mild-hybrid technology. What the combination delivers is a more efficient and responsive engine, which retains the mechanical purity and direct feedback that characterise Mazda's human-centric driving experience.
The 2.5 e-Skyactiv G 141 engine replaces the previous 2.0-litre base unit in the all-new Mazda CX-5. This updated engine is designed to improve everyday performance, responsiveness, and refinement, while meeting current emissions and efficiency standards.
Developed at Mazda's global headquarters in Hiroshima and fine-tuned for European driving conditions at the brand's R&D centre in Oberursel (Germany), the engine power output and torque peak at 141 PS (104 kW) and 238 Nm respectively. In official performance tests, the front-wheel drive version of the CX-5 with this engine achieves 0-100km/h in 10.5 seconds.
The increased displacement contributes to a more assured driving experience, particularly at low and mid-range engine speeds up to 4,000 rpm. Compared to the outgoing 2.0-litre e-Skyactiv G, torque delivery below 4,500 rpm is improved by 8-19%, depending on load and driving conditions. This results in more confident acceleration and smoother cruising, particularly in urban and mixed-use environments.
Mazda has retained a naturally aspirated layout to ensure linear throttle response and avoid delay, maintaining the direct connection with the driver that characterises the brand's Skyactiv engineering approach. The system dynamically adjusts power output based on real-time driving conditions, ensuring the ideal balance between responsiveness and efficiency when it matters most. This is achieved by precisely controlling the catalyst temperature using the throttle and sequential valve timing (Dual S-VT) for the exact control of the combustion process.
The engine is mated to a recalibrated 6-speed automatic transmission with revised shift mapping and an updated hydraulic torque converter control. These refinements reduce shift frequency and enable smoother or crisper transitions depending on load and the driver's preference.
To further reduce fuel consumption during everyday driving without compromising drivability or refinement, the engine incorporates a cylinder deactivation system that shuts down two of the four cylinders behind the scenes under low-load conditions. The engine is fully compliant with the latest Euro 6e emissions standard, and marks a strategic step towards a future Euro 7-compliant version, underlining Mazda's phased approach to clean internal combustion technology.
MAZDA M HYBRID SYSTEM
Mazda's M Hybrid System enhances both efficiency and driving comfort. It comes equipped with an integrated starter-generator (ISG), a 24V lithium-ion battery, a DC-DC converter, and regenerative braking. The ISG recovers the kinetic energy when decelerating and stores it in the battery. The DC-DC converter is then used to convert the power and supply it to the car's electrical equipment, helping reduce engine load and delivering motor assist when needed. This improves fuel economy and delivers smoother driving.
For the first time in a CX-5, the Mazda M Hybrid System now works in coordination with Mazda's brake-by-wire technology, maximising braking performance and energy recuperation efficiency. As a result, the system not only delivers short braking distances and greater vehicle stability, but it also transforms electric brake energy into usable electric power, contributing to reduced CO2 emissions.
To ensure safety and reliability, the electronically controlled brake-by-wire system is designed with a fail-safe function that automatically reverts to full mechanical friction braking if the electrical system fails. This ensures continued braking functionality even under challenging circumstances.
Not only does the Mazda M Hybrid System support lower emissions, but it also improves drivability. Transitions when starting, accelerating, or slowing down are smooth and natural. By using electric motor torque to substitute engine torque when needed, the system achieves the same acceleration with less fuel.
Additionally,
when restarting the engine after idling, the ISG also helps reduce
engine combustion noise, and starter gear sounds and vibrations,
ensuring a high level of quietness.
HUMAN-CENTRIC TECHNOLOGY
The in-car experience in the all-new Mazda CX-5 has been reimagined around connectivity, convenience, and safety. Its technology is designed to simplify, support, and enhance the driving and passenger experience, with a focus on seamless integration and intuitive operation.
Depending on grade, the centre touch display measures either 12.9 inches (from Prime-Line) or 15.6 inches (from Homura) and serves as the hub for infotainment and connectivity. HUMAN-CENTRIC SAFETY
The all-new Mazda CX-5 introduces a comprehensive suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) that make this latest edition to the Mazda range safer than ever before. This new generation, designed to improve safety, awareness, and comfort over a wide range of everyday driving scenarios, brings the CX-5 fully up to speed with Mazda's latest safety technologies.
Smart Brake Support (SBS), with sensors that monitor upcoming traffic conditions and auto-brake to help avoid or mitigate collisions, has been updated to detect the end of traffic jams earlier. It now also supports low-speed manoeuvring by limiting the engine to assist when parking in tight spaces.
Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) enhances situational awareness by alerting the driver to vehicles and bicycles approaching from behind in adjacent lanes. Its latest update now also actively monitors for vehicles and bicycles when turning left or right (LHD/RHD) across traffic, for safer turning manoeuvres.
The Driver Emergency Assist (DEA) introduces a new level of active safety to the all-new Mazda CX-5, complementing the Driver Monitoring (DM), which continuously monitors driver focus and triggers an alert if signs of fatigue are detected. DEA additionally intervenes in such cases by initiating controlled braking and activating the hazard lights to bring the vehicle to a safe stop.
Another supportive feature is a visual and audible prompt that activates if the driver does not resume driving when the traffic light goes green, helping maintain attentiveness in slow-moving traffic.
For semi-automated driving support, Cruising and Traffic Support (CTS) remains available for steering, acceleration, and braking assistance in congested traffic conditions and helps ease driver fatigue. New to the system is Lane Change Assist (LCA), which supports lane changes on highways, provided the driver is holding the steering wheel.
Meanwhile, Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) remains in place to keep a safe distance from vehicles ahead, while updates allow proactive braking before curves. Combining CTS, LCA, and MRCC with the established Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK), that prevents unintentional lane departures, makes long-distance driving safer and less stressful.
A further enhancement is Proactive Driver Assist (PDA), which helps the driver maintain smooth and controlled deceleration in everyday situations. When the accelerator is released, the system automatically provides light braking support depending on the driving context, such as approaching a bend or a slower-moving vehicle ahead. All of which means the driver has far fewer pedal adjustments to worry about, as part of a more relaxed and confident driving experience.
Easier tight manoeuvres, meanwhile, are what the 360° View Monitor (360 VM) delivers. To help the driver avoid obstacles and enhance spatial awareness, the system provides real-time 3D graphics of the vehicle's immediate surroundings. This includes a transparent display that offers a virtual see-through view of the area in front of the vehicle during low-speed manoeuvring, as well as mirror-down and folded mirror views for added visibility. When stationary, an overhead graphic further supports precise vehicle placement and parking.
These systems work in unison to help the driver avoid accidents, maintain lane discipline, and remain aware of the vehicle's surroundings. The full ADAS suite in the all-new Mazda CX-5 reflects Mazda's ongoing commitment to advancing safety technologies with intuitive, reliable, and supportive solutions under real-world conditions.
