EXTERIOR DESIGN

The design of the new Jaguar XE delivers bolder graphics, slimmer, all-LED lights and an even more assertive look.

The front of the car has been given a new look with a revised bumper and a wider grille, providing a more planted appearance. The enhanced grille features a new lattice mesh design with a fuller, curved profile; a visual cue shared with I-PACE which highlights the muscularity of the design. Wider and sharper lower apertures create a more technical and purposeful impression, with crisply defined profiles and muscular flowing forms.

The rear of the car has also been redesigned and features a new rear bumper and rear valance which enhances the car's visual width, giving it a more planted impression while aiding aerodynamic performance.

All-LED headlights underline new Jaguar XE's poised, purposeful character. The slimmer lights also have the effect of visually lowering the nose of the car for a more dynamic stance. The signature 'J' Blade DRLs create a distinctive look. Darkened surfaces within the lights help to underline the car's dynamic character.

Slimmer, all-LED tail-lights also contribute to the car's improved stance. Complete with animated directional indicators and an updated signature light graphic, the new tail-lights are an evolution of those found on the F-Type sportscar and align closely with the all-electric I-PACE.

Alongside these changes, Jaguar's designers have incorporated a number of elements which underscore the attention to detail. An example of this is the Jaguar Heritage monogram pattern, inspired by the D-type, which has been laser-etched into the upper surface of the DRL graphic.

Ian Callum, Jaguar Director of Design, said: "New XE is all about building on the undeniably sporting proportions of the original car. We've given the car much bolder graphics and more visual width; planting it in a way which really illustrates its dynamic intent. New XE is a wonderfully complete package with a very purposeful exterior matched to a beautifully crafted, sporty interior."

The performance focus is even more apparent on R-Dynamic models, which feature a selection of key design elements that mark it out from the core car. The new front bumper includes aircraft winglet-inspired aerodynamic surfaces and the rear valance featuring bespoke dark mesh detailing.

At every stage, Jaguar's designers and engineers worked hand-in-hand to ensure that aesthetic, material and manufacturing elements were integrated to deliver a precise, refined execution, with the utmost attention to detail. This includes the new Adaptive Cruise Control radar which is now placed discreetly behind an enlarged badge on the front grille, while the camera for the ClearSight interior rear view mirror technology sits within a sleek fin on the roof of the car.

The new Jaguar XE's exterior design has been extensively refined to deliver beautiful detailing and a striking, assertive stance.

INTERIOR DESIGN

XE's all-new luxurious and technology-packed interior delivers more comfort, quality and convenience for all occupants. Every aspect of the cabin has been enhanced with greater attention to detail, improved stowage and better passenger comfort.

The beautifully appointed interior makes greater use of soft-touch materials throughout. The redesigned door trims, centre console sides, upper instrument binnacle and top section of the dashboard are all wrapped in premium finishes. Luxurious veneers also extend to the rear cabin.

The premium feel of the interior is heightened by the introduction of the 10-inch Touch Pro Duo infotainment as seen on Jaguar's all-electric I-PACE. This responsive, intuitive system uses a combination of two HD touchscreens, capacitive sensors and tactile physical controls to operate key vehicle functions.

This new human-machine interface (HMI) is designed to minimise driver distraction by separating information and interactive controls logically, with a pair of rotary controllers providing an essential physical connection between car and driver. Each rotary allows precise control over seat heating and cooling, cabin temperature and fan speed. The ergonomic design removes the need to look at them and saves delving into menus or pressing multiple hard buttons for key functions.

High tech elements such as the frameless ClearSight interior rear view mirror and wireless device charging also provide state-of-the-art convenience.

Alister Whelan, Interior Design Director, Jaguar said: "New XE features our latest I-PACE technologies, wrapped up in a sporty interior with beautiful materials and attention to detail. The entire occupant experience has been uplifted, whether that be comfort, convenience or driver interaction. New XE represents the perfect balance of driver engagement and advanced technology."

Taking inspiration from the F-Type sportscar, the new XE features Jaguar's SportShift gear selector and JaguarDrive Control 'toggle' switch, for a more intuitive and dynamic driving experience. A new multi-function steering wheel, as seen in I-PACE, features tactile switches and hidden until lit graphics. Satin Chrome gear shift paddles feature as standard and add to the sportiness of the drive.

All new Jaguar XE models have leather upholstery as standard, with luxurious Windsor Leather and embossed headrests on HSE models. The new seats are more comfortable ad feature beautifully crafted details including twin needle stitching and new Jaguar seat labelling.

All-new door trims now feature wrapped, angled grab handles which provide a more tactile and user friendly experience. This improvement also drastically increases the amount of stowage available within the doors, which now easily accommodate large drinks bottles alongside small items. Door armrests are wider and softer than before, providing superior comfort. This attention to detail enhances the premium feel of the cabin and the reprofiled door trims increase the sensation of interior space, while positioning switches within easy reach.

This focus on premium quality is supported by the Jaguar monogram design that features as an accent throughout the cabin, including on the rotary dials and etched into the metal speaker frets. The eye-catching motif is inspired by the design of the Jaguar Heritage logo and is replicated on exterior elements such as the new all-LED headlights.

New XE's entry level specification now features an automatic transmission, 18" wheels, electric leather seats, all-LED headlights and tail-lights with updated signature graphics, front and rear park aid, rear camera and lane keep assist. Customers can select from S, SE and HSE trim levels, with each also available in sporty R-Dynamic guise. A range of option packs provide even greater personalisation.

TECHNOLOGY

The new Jaguar XE brings innovative technology, the latest convenience systems and enhanced connectivity to the compact saloon class.

Jaguar's advanced Touch Pro Duo infotainment system is now available, putting control of all key systems at the driver's fingertips using a pair of HD touchscreens and intuitive, tactile rotary dials. The minimalist system was first introduced in the all-electric I-PACE and features a large upper screen which delivers impressive clarity, responsiveness and enhanced functionality.

The lower touchscreen can be used to adjust settings, such as for climate control, without disrupting the upper screen, while intuitive capacitive switches ensure the driver is able to change settings without diverting their attention from the road. Combined with the latest generation 12.3-inch Interactive Driver Display instrument cluster, all of the important information a driver needs is logically and intuitively displayed to minimise distraction.

Jaguar's latest generation larger and brighter Head-up Display helps drivers to keep their eyes on the road. The full-colour set-up, projects key information such as satellite navigation directions, current speed data and the incoming caller contact name directly into the driver's eye line.

The first-in-segment ClearSight interior rear view mirror uses a rear-facing camera to feed images to a high-resolution screen within the mirror. A small toggle switch on the mirror allows the driver to switch seamlessly between the standard mirror and the camera feed. This means the rear view is not blocked by rear passengers or obstructed by water on the rear screen and it also gives a wider 50-degree field of vision, enhancing safety on wide multi-lane carriageways.

Designed to integrate seamlessly within the roof-mounted shark fin, the high-definition camera works in all conditions with a protective lip and clever hydrophobic coating to repel water and ensure the camera lens remains clean at all times.

Alex Heslop, Director of Electronics and Software, Jaguar Land Rover, said: "New XE is filled with our latest intuitive and intelligent technologies. At the heart of the vehicle is the new dual screen infotainment system and a 12.3 inch interactive driver display that is designed to enhance the driver experience. Smart Settings uses artificial intelligence to learn your preferences and automatically adjust settings for seats, climate control and entertainment. Features such as wireless device charging, ClearSight interior rear view mirror and a host of safety technologies ensure that our customers are kept safe, informed and entertained on every journey."

Smart Settings use artificial intelligence to learn the preferences of individual drivers. Using key fob and smartphone information, it is able to recognise who is using the car and automatically adjust the seating and steering column position to their chosen positions. Over time it learns individual climate control and music listening preferences, even cueing up the most popular phone contacts at different times.

Wireless device charging features for the first time, allowing occupants to place a compatible smartphone in the centre console for it to be charged without the need for messy cables.

The new Jaguar XE also features the latest safety technologies. Driver Condition Monitoring measures steering, throttle and brake inputs, analyses lane departure and the driver's use of directional indicators. If the system's algorithms determine that the driver is drowsy, a coffee cup symbol is displayed in the instrument cluster to warn of the need to take a break.

Park Assist technology can identify suitable parallel and perpendicular parking spaces using ultrasonic sensors. Once a suitable space has been identified, the XE can steer itself into and, in the case of parallel parking spaces, out from the space. All the driver has to do is operate the accelerator, brakes and select either 'drive' or 'reverse' gears.

The new all-LED headlights feature a distinctive 'J' Blade DRL signature and feature Auto High Beam Assist as standard. Auto High Beam Assist uses a forward-facing camera to detect oncoming traffic and automatically switch between high and low beam. Optional Jaguar Matrix technology uses the Jaguar XE's on-board camera system to adapt the shape of the beam - shutting off individual LEDs as another car approaches - to avoid dazzling oncoming drivers.

Cabin Air Ionisation purifies the air through electrically charged particles. The output is cleaner interior air due to the ionisation, decomposing and elimination of allergens, viruses, airborne bacteria and associated odours. This feature is considered to have a beneficial effect on health and wellbeing through the moisturising of skin and hair.

Connectivity has been enhanced with the introduction of a Smartphone Pack, which features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system mirrors the driver's smartphone on the 10-inch HD touchscreen allowing customers to access compatible apps quickly, easily and safely while on the move.

The XE also functions as a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot, enabling up to eight devices to connect to the internet with the vehicle antenna providing the best possible signal.

2020 Jaguar XE

PERFORMANCE

Designed and engineered to be the best handling and most dynamic compact executive saloon, the new Jaguar XE gets a more focused engine range and takes driver controls directly from F-Type, emphasising its sportscar character.

The XE's aluminium-intensive body construction is an extremely robust yet light structure and, together with a double wishbone front suspension and an Integral Link rear axle, it is fundamental to the XE's sporting vehicle dynamics.

Aluminium makes up 75 per cent of the XE body and combines with proven rear and

all-wheel drive systems, plus some of Jaguar's most advanced engines, for impeccable handling and performance.

Customers can choose from a focused range of three advanced Ingenium petrol and diesel engines. Delivering acceleration from 0-60mph in 5.4 seconds (0-100km/h in 5.7 seconds), the 300PS Ingenium petrol engine, with all-wheel drive, is the performance powertrain of choice. With an uprated boosting system and 400Nm of torque, the turbocharged unit's immediate throttle response ensures an engaging drive and impressive acceleration.

Customers can also choose a 250PS Ingenium petrol engine, while diesel power comes from the efficient 180PS 2.0-litre engine, which produces 430Nm of torque and gives fuel consumption of up to 57.6mpg (from 4.9l/100km).

All engines are available with a choice of rear or all-wheel drive, subject to market availability. The rear wheel drive powertrain delivers trademark Jaguar handling, feel and balance while the advanced all-wheel drive system automatically distributes torque between the front and rear axles depending on the driving style and conditions. This intelligent set-up delivers greater driver confidence on all surfaces and in all conditions while retaining the Jaguar XE's exceptional handling characteristics.

Continuing the theme of heightened driver engagement, the new XE features Jaguar's distinctive SportShift gear selector, first seen in the F-Type sportscar. The intuitive design replaces the previous rotary controller and allows the driver to leave the car in full automatic mode or use the direct and involving manual gearshift, pulling the lever back to select a higher gear or instinctively pushing it forwards to choose a lower ratio. Alternatively, Satin Chrome steering wheel paddle shifters can be used to control the eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Standard on all XE models is the JaguarDrive Control interface from the F-Type. The sportscar-inspired toggle switch on the centre console allows the driver to choose from four settings for the steering, throttle response and gearbox: Comfort, Eco, Rain Ice Snow and Dynamic. Enabling Dynamic mode amplifies the car's sporting character, with faster gear shifts, sharper throttle response and increased steering weighting.

Drivers are able to shape the driving experience further and with greater ease thanks to the optional Configurable Dynamics system. This feature allows drivers to set up the vehicle to their personal preference by choosing Comfort or Dynamic settings for the engine, gearbox and steering through the central touchscreen. Where specified, Adaptive Dynamics constantly adjusts the dampers to provide the optimum balance between comfort and refinement at all times and in all driving situations.

Mike Cross, Chief Engineer, Jaguar, said: "XE has always had the traditional attributes of a Jaguar sportscar with its lightweight construction, dynamic handling and exceptional performance. The new model builds on these foundations to maintain its status as the best-driving compact executive saloon."

Jaguar's advanced torque on-demand all-wheel drive (AWD) system and Intelligent Driveline Dynamics technology maintain the XE's rear-wheel drive handling feel and agility while improving performance, traction and driver confidence in all weather conditions.

Also available on the new XE for the first time is the Dynamic Handling Pack, which groups a number of key performance-related items into one compelling option: Configurable Dynamics, Adaptive Dynamics, larger Performance Brakes, Coloured Brake Calipers and Bootlid Spoiler.

New Jaguar XE's entry level specification now features an automatic transmission, 18" wheels, electric leather seats, all-LED headlights and tail-lights with updated signature graphics, front and rear park aid, rear camera and lane keep assist. Customers can select from S, SE and HSE trim levels, with each also available in sporty R-Dynamic guise. A range of option packs provide even greater personalisation.
