2020 Porsche 718 Spyder

The 718 family welcomes growth: With the new 718 Spyder and the 718 Cayman GT4, Porsche is presenting two particularly exciting and powerful top models that take first place in the  series. Its streamlined character appeals to sports car enthusiasts who enjoy pure driving  and appreciate great agility and an almost intimate proximity to the power center. This is ensured by the perfectly coordinated mid-engine concept. For the first time, the Porsche 718 Spyder and the 718 Cayman GT4 share a common technical basis. These include a new four-liter six-cylinder naturally aspirated engine and a six-speed manual transmission. The boxer engine delivers 309 kW (420 hp) in both models. While the GT4 represents Porsche's entry-level GT road model, the Spyder is capable of handling any corner.

Sensational high-revving naturally aspirated engine

The heart of both models is a new four-litre six-cylinder boxer engine. The naturally aspirated engine is based on the same engine family as the turbo engines in the current 911 Carrera  series. The new high-revving engine delivers 309 kW (420 hp) – 35 hp more than previous GT4  models. The third generation  Spyder  has up to 45 hp more. It delivers a maximum torque of 420 Nm between 5,000 and 6,800 rpm. Sports cars with a manual transmission  can  break the 300 km/h limit: the Porsche 718 Spyder reaches a top speed of 301 km/h,  the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 a top speed of 304 km/h. Both models accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds. The correlated fuel consumption of  mid-engine sports cars is 10.9 l/100 km according to the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). The fascinating character of this naturally aspirated engine combines a modern  emission control system with diesel particulate filter with the linear power  and spontaneous response of the GT engine. It has a maximum engine speed of 8,000 rpm. The incomparable sound of the boxer is retained. The new features include important technical features such as adaptive cylinder control. In part-load operation, it temporarily interrupts the injection process in one of the two cylinder banks, thereby reducing fuel consumption.

Grip: strong braking performance, high-performance tires

The high-performance braking system of the Porsche 718 Spyder and Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 offers gentle braking adapted to the route thanks to large aluminum monobloc fixed calipers. A Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) is also available as an option. One of the new features is that the 718 Spyder now runs on specially adapted ultra-high-performance (UHP) tires from Porsche. They are part of the overall package that brings the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 to the "Nordschleife" of the Nürburgring: The new Porsche 718 Spyder and the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 can be ordered now. In Germany, prices start at  93,350 euros for the Spyder and  96,206 euros for the Cayman GT4, each including VAT and  country-specific equipment.
