The 2022 Buick Envision is a premium economy class. It's prettier and better equipped than its country cousin, the Chevrolet Equinox, but its luxury quotient puts it unattainable for segment leaders. It just isn't in that gray area between classes that it shares with other high-end SUVs like the Acura RDX, Infiniti QX50, and Lincoln Corsair. Her exterior design is refined and attractive, and the comfortable cabin is peppered with amenities. All models feature the, a 228 hp four-cylinder turbocharged engine and a nine-speed automatic transmission; All-wheel drive is optional, otherwise the Envision is a front-wheel drive SUV.
Engine
Buick offers just one engine under the Envision 2022's sleek hood. It's a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine that develops 228 horsepower. It's paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive is standard. However, buyers can choose all-wheel drive in one of three trim levels. While the Envision feels snappy around town, it's never particularly quick, especially when compared to key rivals like the Audi Q5 and BMW X3. On our test track, it delivered a tedious 0-to-60 mph run in 7.3 seconds; however, its subjective on-road performance will be excellent for most drivers.
Comfort
The Envision's interior design looks good and of the three trim levels, the Avenir competes best with rivals like the Q5, X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC-class. While the Preferred and Essence models offer many standard features, the Avenir offers luxuries like quilted leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and a massage driver's seat. The cabin is said to offer similar passenger space as its predecessor, but the Envision's slightly shorter length means it has slightly less cargo space than before. While the old model could hold a maximum of 26 bags with the rear seat folded down, the new model only held 21.
Infotanment
The basic version called Preferred has 8 bags.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, but Essence and Avenir models get a 10.2-inch unit. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, both with wireless connectivity, is standard across the range. The Buick also offers standard 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, along with SiriusXM satellite radio, a six-speaker stereo and active noise cancellation. Buyers of the Essence trim get a seven-speaker stereo, but can upgrade to the nine-speaker Bose setup by opting for the Tech Pack, which also adds in-dash navigation. Both features are standard on the Avenir.
