In the fashion world, high style often comes at the expense of comfort or practicality, and the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLA250 is one of many stylish cars that demonstrates this principle. We know this because the company's GLB250 is essentially the same SUV under its boxy wardrobe. The GLB's more sensible form has room for a lot more cargo and can even accommodate an optional third row of seats. But if you ask us, the GLA250's sloping roofline and hatchback looks are way sexier. The,221 hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine offers reasonable power, the handling is responsive enough for most buyers, and the cabin is suitably sophisticated with exclusive sports materials and well-integrated tech features.

Engine

The 2023 GLA-Class is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged  four-cylinder engine that drives the front wheels or all four wheels and delivers 221 hp; it runs on an eight-speed automatic transmission. On our test track, the all-wheel drive GLA250 4Matic hit 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds – reasonable but far from fast compared to many electric SUVs. This score is actually slower than the last-gen model, which scored a 5.Result of 7 seconds in the same test. While the GLA250 isn't a sporty SUV, its handling is balanced and its suspension is soft enough on rough sections of road to avoid a harsh feel.

Efficiency

The GLA 250 we tested should be sufficient for most drivers. The performance is adapted to the vehicle size and accelerates easily. Our front-wheel drive tester required 6.8 seconds to reach 60 mph, which is an average time for a tiny luxury SUV. The engine and transmission run well, although you may notice  engine vibrations on first start due to the automatic  stop-start system. Shifting can also be a bit loose when you step on the accelerator for  quick acceleration.
