DRIVING DYNAMICS AND SAFETY
The Mazda CX-6e is built in China and has been developed together with Changan, based on a strong and well-established partnership of more than 20 years of collaboration.
The team at Mazda's European Research and Development Centre in Oberursel, Germany, played a pivotal role in crafting a vehicle that feels at home on the continent's diverse roads and ensured the Mazda CX-6e delivers the kind of driving dynamics that enthusiasts expect: balanced, responsive, and refined.
From chassis tuning to steering, handling, braking, and tire performance, engineers from the Mazda Oberursel R&D centre adjusted each element to deliver an engaging and confident drive and to meet European standards and cater to local customer preferences. The spring and damper rates on its MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension have been meticulously recalibrated, as has the level of assistance on its electrically-assisted rack and pinion steering. With just 2.55 turns between locks, the steering has the optimal balance between low-speed agility and high-speed stability.
Particular attention was also paid to the brake pedal feel to ensure consistent response when transitioning between regenerative and mechanical braking, while the accelerator mapping was fine tuned to create a confidence-inspiring linearity.
Noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) levels have been tuned to create a sophisticated, quiet cabin environment. The distinctive EV sound, designed to act subconsciously, provides reassuring feedback while aligning perfectly with European tastes and expectations.
In addition, human-machine interface (HMI) functionalities, driver-assist features, and active safety systems have been optimized by European R&D experts, ensuring technology that feels natural, responsive, and tailored to the region's driving culture. Complementing this, the performance feel across driving modes has also been carefully adjusted to ensure a seamless and intuitive experience.
The Mazda CX-6e offers three Drive Modes that let drivers tailor their driving experience to their individual style. As its name suggests, Normal Mode is ideal for everyday driving conditions with smooth acceleration, and medium settings for regenerative braking and steering resistance for the best balance between range and performance. Sport Mode aims to create a more engaging and dynamic experience, with a more immediate response from the accelerator pedal, steering resistance and medium regenerative braking. Individual Mode allows drivers to configure acceleration, regenerative braking and steering characteristics to their personal preferences. Acceleration can be set to medium or strong, while regenerative braking is available in four levels-low, standard, medium and strong-and steering resistance can be adjusted between standard and sport settings.
Mazda's driver-centric dynamics are complemented by a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance technologies: Smart Brake Support (Front), Forward Obstruction Warning (FOW), Rear Collision Warning (RCW), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Rear Cross Traffic Braking (RCTB), Lane Keeping Assist System (LAS), Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK) with Blind Spot Assist, Intelligent Speed Assist (ISA), Speed Limit Assistant, Secondary Collision Reduction, Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) including Blind Spot Prevention (BSP), and Door Opening Warning (DOW) are all fitted as standard to all models in the Mazda CX-6e range.
In keeping with its family transport role in European markets, all models of the CX-6e feature Child Presence Detection (CPD), which uses Mazda's interior camera to detect children in the rear seats and project them on the centre display. When leaving the car, a warning sound ensures that young children do not accidentally remain in the car unattended. Nine airbags - including front driver and passenger airbags, a far-side airbag between the front seats, front and rear side airbags, and curtain airbags - are standard across the line-up. High-definition megapixel cameras, millimetre-wave radar and ultrasonic radars all work seamlessly together to monitor the car's environment enhancing the driver's external vision and awareness of their surroundings.
