The Volkswagen Tiguan is a European version of the classic American SUV. It offers more athletic handling than many of its competitors and its cabin has an understated look with plenty of stylish specs, earning it a spot on our List. Pick list. While the Tiguan didn't prove particularly fast on our test track, the turbocharged four-cylinder engine runs well, looks sleek and will stand up to most buyers. The Tiguan is sold on world markets - in the USA Dealers only sell the long-wheelbase model, meaning a third-row seat is available for those who need it.

Comfort

The interior of the Tiguan is a classic Volkswagen, ie simple and functional, but not very elegant. Others offer more legroom in the second row, but the Tiguan is one of the few vehicles in its class that can be configured with seven seats. The Tiguan comes standard with cloth seats and partially electric adjustment of the front seats. Upgrading to pricier trims gets you a full power driver setup, leatherette seats and a panoramic sunroof. The With only 12 cubic feet of available cargo space behind the third row, the Tiguan just can't be a tow vehicle when the third row is in use.With the third row of seats folded down, the Tiguan's luggage compartment dimensions are roughly in the middle of its class in terms of space saving. With all the seats folded, we were able to pack 19 of our carry-on bags into the Tiguan, fewer than our main competitors, including the CR-V.

Engine

Under the hood of every 2022 Tiguan is a 184 hp four-cylinder turbo engine; Front-wheel drive is standard, but Volkswagen's 4Motion all-wheel-drive system is optional. It is a sporty and fun-to-drive SUV with a smooth-running engine and a well-tuned automatic transmission. Like most of its competitors, it's far from fast, but it makes up for it with spirited driving, athletic handling and responsive steering with a touch of sportiness reminiscent of the famous VW GTI sedan. The Tiguan's brake pedal is soft, a far cry from the firm, progressive pedals we like on other members of the VW family.
